I moved to Michigan straight out of college to join the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project, train with Olympic aspirations and live the life of a professional runner. I soon found I was in over my head – overtrained and living an unbalanced lifestyle. I got injured, and I was faced with not being able to run for several months, which was of course a foreign concept for me. That is when I decided to come to RLY and give yoga a try for the first time. I was immediately welcomed by your studio and staff. Finding yoga has been instrumental in helping me relax and actually listen to my body. It’s honestly changed my life. Yoga helped me recognize I can’t just keep plowing through life, that I need to embrace every day as well as be tuned in to what my body is telling me at any given time, on any given day. Although I have not yet found a studio that matches my love for RLY here in the Twin Cities, I do still practice yoga twice a week, run a little less, and relax a little more [:)] My life is so much more balanced and fulfilled thanks to finding yoga! I am SO thankful to all of you at RLY who were so welcoming to this naive runner girl– always patient with my tight hips and, at the beginning, my tendency to speed through flows without following my breath. If I hadn’t had such a positive experience at RLY, I don’t think I would have stuck with yoga–because it’s a lot different from competitive running; it’s hard in an entirely different way. In fact, I know plenty of runners who knock yoga, and I think it’s because it is a different kind of hard. I embrace that challenge and that every time I step on my mat I’ll experience something new and different. I love it. Yoga will truly be a part of my life forevermore!
Thank you, Brian, for helping transform my life!
My name is Sophia and I have attended classes at RLY on and off. I practice yoga many places in the community, but always feel warm and welcome at RLY. I approached you at the new location saying “I’m not getting pregnant, it’s been over a year…please help” and you told me to continue my practice and it will come….in the following weeks I found out I was expecting. I know my practice helped and our conversation sent good energy into the universe for me. I practiced throughout my pregnancy and my son is now a beautiful (and calm!) 6 month old! Many thanks for everything you do. I appreciate RLY being there for its community.
I cannot even explain my gratitude toward you and the staff at Red Lotus. I went through a very painful divorce 5 years ago and it was yoga that took me over to the other side of happiness and peace. Not only did I heal, my daily attitude, overall well being have tremendously improved. I will continue to practice in Ft. Worth. If you have any recommendations please let me know. Again, thank you, thank you to you and your amazing staff.
Dear Brian: i've noticed many people are going through kind of a difficult time this year, as have i. It's the strangest thing. Moved away from home all of this internal mayhem arose within me and for the past 6 months i've been going through a kind of spiritual clearing(as my mom describes it).
Anyway, When this all first started, i thought back to you and my yoga teacher training and recalled some things we learned about meditation. i've been studying and practicing meditation through this process, it's become such an important part of my life, it's a slow process, but it's getting me through this clearing, and beginning to balance me in a way i would have never thought possible.
I'm not ALL better yet, but i can already tell i will be better than i've ever been for my days to come. I just want to let you know that i still think about the lessons i learned in my teacher training and what a great experience it was for me, even though i never became a teacher ... but who know, perhaps i'll be doing something in Meditation instead !
Thank you for everything,
